WaterWatch was thrilled to present angler, musician, and Mountaineers Books author Steve Duda for two of his recent Oregon appearances to promote his book River Songs: Moments of Wild Wonder in Fly Fishing in a special evening at Powell’s Books in Beaverton on Aug. 22nd, and Roundabout Books in Bend on Sept. 12th.
The managing editor for fly fishing at Patagonia, Steve shared selections from River Songs, took questions from the audience, and spoke with WaterWatch development officer, fellow angler, Writers On the Fly colleague, and event host and moderator Jesse Robbins. Steve previously served as the editor at The Flyfish Journal, was a founding editor at Boise Weekly, and wrote for Seattle’s legendary music weekly The Rocket. His writing has recently appeared in Huffington Post, Rolling Stone, Seattle Weekly, San Francisco Bay Guardian, and other outlets.
To paraphrase The Mountaineers Books, Steve’s River Songs focuses on the in-between moments and unexpected revelations as much a part of fishing as tying knots and chucking flies, including battered pickup trucks, fishing between jobs, gazing longingly at unfished rivers, and how a fishing trip led to a tooth being pulled — with beauty, discovery, heartbreak, and nature in between.
