Dear Friend,
Going into this long holiday weekend, we at WaterWatch would like to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving. We have much to be grateful for, and I hope each of you can enjoy the next several days with family, friends, and loved ones.
Here at WaterWatch, we’re especially thankful for YOU. Your passion, enthusiasm, and support for healthy rivers is the reason we’ve been able to continue our work in all corners of Oregon for nearly 40 years. Just this week, your support helped us reach a major milestone and a critical win for Oregon’s rivers with the successful demolition and removal of Pomeroy Dam, the Rogue River Basin’s highest priority barrier to native fish!
With this removal, the 56 miles of the mainstem Illinois River are now entirely free-flowing for the first time in 126 years, from its beginnings within Illinois River Forks State Park to its confluence with the Rogue River near Agness. YOU are key to WaterWatch’s conservation accomplishments like this one, and we are truly grateful. Thank you!
And following the Thanksgiving holiday is GivingTuesday, which this year falls on Tuesday, Dec. 3rd. Created in 2012 in the wake of Black Friday, GivingTuesday is intended as a day for people to share their good fortune with organizations working to make the world, or their community, a better place.
Stay tuned for more details about a donation match opportunity this GivingTuesday to make a lasting, positive impact for Oregon’s rivers with a matched donation to WaterWatch of Oregon.
In the meantime, we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
For rivers and fish,
Neil Brandt
