WaterWatch and our coalition have been sounding the alarm on HR 655 since the beginning of the year, and during that time it’s become clear Oregonians oppose the impacts of data centers on their communities, on electricity and energy rates, on rivers and streams, and in the case of HR 655, facilitating a “land grab” of 150 acres from the Mt. Hood National Forest.
HR 655 is now before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and we have an opportunity TODAY to take part in direct action opposing HR 655 and the bypassing of public input to transfer 150 acres of Mt. Hood National Forest federal public land to the City of The Dalles to fuel that city’s skyrocketing water needs — likely driven by the six-building Google data center campus there.
Please join us at Senator Ron Wyden’s Portland office today from 4 to 5 p.m. as we join community members, water advocates, and neighbors to say NO to HR 655. The address is 911 NE 11th Ave. in Portland, not far from the Lloyd Center MAX Station (TriMet Stop 8343).
Senator Wyden serves on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and if we have a strong enough showing on Thursday in conjunction with organizer Extinction Rebellion PDX, the senator will be able to go back to his colleagues in D.C. and offer further evidence of how opposed Oregonians are to HR 655.
